Sally M. Russell
Sally M. Russell’s grandfather C. Z. Nelson had come to America from Sweden with his parents when he was only 2 years old. His father had then died when Grandpa was 10 years old, and as years passed, no one seemed to be interested in the history of the family or if there were any relatives still in Sweden. Sally’s two older sisters, Julia Rude and Mary Thompson, decided to trace the ancestry and they were eventually able to find that an equivalent to the American side was still residing in Smaland. The trip they took to discover their Swedish relatives proved to be a wonderful and very informative experience.

Galesburg, Illinois was Sally’s home from the age of three to sixty-seven. Her teen years were filled with many activities at school and also at a well chaperoned youth center close by. Her home was just a half block from a riding stable and she was able to go riding several times before residential building caused the stable to move outside the city limits. This fondness was why she included horses in most of her books. After living in Charlotte, NC and Lawrence, KS, she is now back in her home town.
