Overview

Lectio divina is an ancient spiritual practice that can help us to hear God speaking to us through the words of Scripture. In recent times, Pope Benedict XVI and a Synod of Bishops have recommended that lay people pray with the Scriptures using this method. In this book, respected biblical scholar Stephen J. Binz chooses one of the three Mass readings for each Sunday in cycles A, B, and C during Lent, including the complete text of the reading. Then he leads readers through the steps of lectio divina—reading, meditation, prayer, contemplation, and action—by suggesting themes and verses on which to focus.
--Discussion questions are provided for each of the Sunday readings.
--A perfect Lenten resource for both individuals and parish groups.

“Want a really transforming experience for Lent? Use this book to let the word of God in the Sunday readings take flesh in your life. There are a lot of books that comment on the readings. This one shows you how to pray and contemplate them, walking you through the steps that let you meet God in his word.” —Fr. George T. Montague, SM, author and professor of biblical theology, St. Mary’s University, San Antonio

"The Synod of 2008 on the Word of God invited the whole Church to rediscover the tradition of lectio divina. Stephen Binz offers us a concrete way of responding generously to that invitation." -- Most Rev. Paul-Andre Durocher, Bishop of Alexandria-Cornwell, Canada

"You'll want to make this available to everyone in the parish!" -- Nick Wagner, founder of TeamRCIA.com, editor of "Today's Parish Minister".

Stephen J. Binz is a Catholic biblical scholar, a popular speaker, and the author of more than thirty books on Scripture, including Conversing with God in Scripture: A Contemporary Approach to Lectio Divina, published by The Word Among Us Press. He has studied at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and has led numerous pilgrimages to biblical lands. He lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
