Overview

In this book, John Flavel, a non-conformist minister of the seventeenth century, explains the purpose of God for his people and shows His interworkings in the unraveling of their live-events; that is, how God works through His own providence on behalf of His elect. And, he shows how reflecting upon God's ruling providence in our lives in the past will encourage us to bravely face whatever problems and challanges life may bring in the future. As it has now done for over three centuries, this book will inspire us with hope in the day of trouble. It will give us a divine cordial of rejoicing in time of calm as Flavel opens the door to God's providential care for His people. Not much has been written on the life of John Flavel, but this book has an insert of a biography of the man, which was published in the first volume of his complete works. Highlights from Flavel's other great works have also been included. The book is foot-noted (but not overly so) in order to explain archaic words adn historical figures to which Flavel refers.
