Overview

In an approach that has never been done before, Harmony of the Gospels weaves the four famous, biblical accounts of Jesus' life into one continuous, chronological narrative. This book reads as if the four gospel writers (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are sitting at the table, relating their versions of Jesus' life; each, in turn, telling what they knew of Jesus before moving on to the next event. Matthew and Mark share similar testimonies, while Luke expands on Christ's teaching and John adds his personal knowledge of Jesus. As the narrative of each gospel writer describes Christ's final week and His crucifixion, a reader sees uniformity in each of their recollections, saying, "They crucified him." Harmony of the Gospels further reveals that each gospel writer anguished over different parts of the crucifixion. Matthew and Luke describe a man from Cyrene carrying Jesus' cross, but only Mark says the names of the man's two sons. Three writers report that the crucifixion occurred at a place called "the skull"; Luke does not. John mentions that two others hung on crosses next to Jesus but, unlike the others, omits that they were thieves. Only Mark gives us Pilate's reaction to Jesus' death. This book is for the student of scripture, who will see how the different gospel accounts compare with each other. This book is for the person seeking a deeper devotional life; who will find a unique way to encounter the life and message of Jesus. This book is also for the skeptic of Christianity, who will discover dozens of archaeological and historical facts that back up the biblical record. Harmony of the Gospels pulls together the details of what life was like at the time of Christ. God specifically chose that time in history to bring His Son, Jesus, into this world. "
