Overview

Research has shown that international organizations with many players from diverse cultural backgrounds often encounter major obstacles. In most cases, plans of international organizations tend out to be unrealistic, schedules are hard to meet, results turn out different from expected. Perhaps, part of the difficulties developed and dealt with in mono-cultural context, have been uncritically applied to the international environment. The purpose of this book is to explain the nature of some of the challenges faced by international organizations in managing employees from diverse cultures. This book has used Ibis West Africa as a case study. Key features of this book include: • Organizational culture and values. • Dimensions of cultural differences. • Ibis Strategies of managing cultural differences. Theories on Intercultural Management • Philosophy of science and methods of conducting qualitative research. Note: “This work was first presented to the department of cross-cultural studies, Aalborg University, Denmark for the award of an M.A in Culture, Communication and Globalization with specialization in organization and Leadership in July 2009”.
