"There are many books of Bible stories for children, but this handsome, oversize addition is not quite like the others. Morse, both biblical scholar and artist, takes the familiar (and not so familiar) stories, trims them to a few lines or paragraphs, and fills in the blanks with wonderfully original artwork... An ambitious offering, successfully accomplished." (Booklist, starred review)
"In this delightful retelling of the biblical story ... Morse's scholarship and appreciation for the Bible is obvious, and he does a masterful job of making readers part of the story. Bedtime story or not, children and adults will relish this journey of epic proportions." (Publishers Weekly)
Like an illuminated manuscript of old, this Torah or Old Testament comes alive in through expressive forms and eye-catching colors. Universal figures, adorned in a delightful array of contemporary patterns, create lasting impressions. Extra features direct older readers to the related biblical chapters. "Make It Yourself" options allow young artists of all abilities to cut and paste their own versions of the book's illustrations.
The distinctive combination of image and text found here lends a wholly original beauty to the greatest classic of all time.
Benjamin Morse grew up in Connecticut and Virginia before studying religion and art history at Vassar College. He later completed a master's in biblical interpretation at Oxford University and a master's in modern art at the Courtauld Institute in London. He was then awarded a PhD from Glasgow University for a dissertation on the Hebrew Bible's aesthetic diversity. His scholarly work has been published in multiple collections and journals.
The Oldest Bedtime Story Ever is Morse's first children's book, which took over 8 years to make. He now lives in New York City.
This book was printed in the USA.
