Reading to Grow: A Field Guide to the Bible

Paperback |English |1532616147 | 9781532616143
Overview

This book is a short introduction to the things every Christian should know about the Bible. It provides answers to a broad assortment of questions ranging from why there are different translations, how do experts approach Bible difficulties, what are the basics of interpretation, and more. The work seeks to be a powerful tool to equip and encourage the saints so they rightly handle the Word of God. Drawing from a rich tradition of theology and philosophy, readers will find themselves instructed and inspired from some of the greatest minds in the Christian tradition on various Biblical issues. ""Bernard has a genuine heart for Christ and His Word. He is a bold and articulate defender of truth! He has written a scholarly, yet readable book that succinctly previews and overviews the elements of biblical interpretation."" --Troy Dobbs, Senior Pastor, Grace Church of Eden Prairie ""Dr. Bernard Mauser is an avid and experienced student of God's Word. He has studied the basic principles of interpretation, digested them, and presented them in a straightforward manner, and a pleasant and conversational tone that both the novice and the experienced student of the Bible can understand and implement. I encourage anyone who wants to better understand the Bible to take advantage of what Mauser has to offer."" --Thomas A. Howe, PhD, Professor of Bible and Biblical Languages, Southern Evangelical Seminary ""Mauser reminds us of some basic principles to help us read and apply God's Word correctly. His outlook is positive and practical. Reading to Grow is not a polemic against different theological positions on the Bible, but an aid for Christians who just want to learn more of what the Bible says."" --Win Corduan, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Religion, Taylor University; Author of In the Beginning God ""Reading to Grow is extremely helpful in explaining how just about anybody has the potential to understand the Bible. Mauser clearly presents the case that God has revealed his word in a language we can actually understand. I recommend every believer read this book."" --Dave Sterrett, former Professor of Great Books, San Diego Christian College; Author of I Am Second ""Mauser has skillfully woven together the philosophical with the practical, the technical with the theological. [His] 'get to the point' treatment of the fundamentally relevant issues regarding biblical interpretation, with due recognition of both the difficulties and the urgency of this sacred task, will make this book an especially useful tool for the beginner student, the seasoned pastor, and everyone in between."" --Gerard A. Figurelli, Pastor, Highlands Bible Fellowship, Sugar Land, TX Bernard James Mauser is both principal and instructor at Westside Christian Academy, and an adjunct professor at Southern Evangelical Seminary and Liberty University. In addition to a Master's in Christian Apologetics (Cum Laude), he earned both a Master's and PhD in Philosophy, developing a strong background in Philosophy of Religion, Philosophical Theology, and History of Philosophy. One area of his focused study involves the intersection of theology, philosophy, apologetics, and Biblical interpretation.
